Imagine us 100 years from now
Beyond the limits– Telefónica & Teatro Real
To mark its centenary, Telefónica set out to create a gala bringing together major figures in music, both national and international, as well as emerging young talents.
The challenge was an ambitious one: to create a narrative that would unite the company’s history, values and vision for the future through music, combining both its legacy and innovation. This challenge represented a test both creatively and in terms of production, particularly with regard to the staging.
Igor Studio’s brief was to design a memorable concert, from its creative direction to its production, that would reflect both the past and future of Telefónica, fusing tradition and avant-garde, all while maintaining an exceptional level of elegance and care.
The concert was divided into two distinct parts. The first, with a classical structure, was highlighted by the talent of the orchestra and soloists, who left the audience captivated. The second part, more innovative, was marked by a series of striking stage gestures. One of the most surprising moments was the flight of drones within the venue, which, by coordinating their lights in formation, traced a majestic “T” to usher in the most avant-garde part of the gala.
A key moment was when the curtain rose to reveal a large symphony orchestra set up on scaffolding that took up the entire stage. This ensemble performed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, evoking the iconic skyscrapers of New York, while also referencing the famous redevelopment of Telefónica’s corporate headquarters on Gran Vía in Madrid.
For the grand finale, the audience was able to interact innovatively with the orchestra and soloists by connecting their mobile phones to generate a harmonic backing in real time. Over this backing, the performers played a special version of “Happy Birthday”, dedicated to Telefónica’s 100th anniversary.
