Beyond the limits– Telefónica & Teatro Real

On the occasion of its centenary celebration, Telefónica set out to create a gala bringing together prominent figures from both the national and international music scenes, as well as emerging young talents.

The challenge was ambitious: to craft a narrative that would unite the company’s history, values, and vision for the future through music, blending both legacy and innovation. This presented a challenge both creatively and logistically, especially in terms of production and staging.

Igor Studio’s brief was to design a memorable concert, from its creative direction to its production, that would reflect both the past and the future of Telefónica, merging tradition with cutting-edge innovation, all while maintaining an exceptional level of elegance and attention to detail.

The concert was divided into two distinct parts. The first, with a classical structure, showcased the exceptional talent of the orchestra and soloists. The second part, more innovative, was marked by striking visual elements. One of the most surprising moments was the flight of indoor drones, whose coordinated lights formed a majestic “T” that heralded the more avant-garde segment of the gala.

Another key moment occurred when the curtain rose to reveal a large symphony orchestra arranged on scaffolding spanning the entire stage. This ensemble performed Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin, evoking the iconic facades of New York, while also referencing the famous renovation of Telefónica’s headquarters on Madrid’s Gran Vía.

As a grand finale, the audience was invited to interact with the orchestra and soloists in a groundbreaking way by connecting their mobile phones, creating a live harmonic base. Over this foundation, the artists performed a unique version of Happy Birthday, dedicating it to Telefónica’s 100 years.
